🍿 Some other stuff!
Another big month for concerts this month! I saw my favorite band Geese twice in Brooklyn this month. When you guys start hearing them all over Youtube and the radio and whatnot, don’t say I didn’t tell you they are the next big thing. They’re incredible!!
We went rock climbing for Mr Jiggy’s birthday this month and it was a lot of fun. I’m pretty afraid of heights, but I conquered my fear and tried out the bouldering wall. For anyone not into rock climbing, bouldering is as “free solo” as it gets - you don’t do any harnesses or belaying or anything. Free willy! I did a good job considering I was nervous. 😄
If you’re in NYC / Brooklyn and you want a cool place to hang, I highly recommend the Sunken Harbor Club in Brooklyn by Atlantic Terminal. It’s a nautical tiki bar and it absolutely rocks. It’s so hard to get into (they open at 5pm) so you better get there early to get a table. The food and drinks are so worth it!!!
Vic’s movie corner: To quote the great movie expert Gregg Turkington, “hey guys, it’s move time!” Here’s a bunch of movies I saw this past month:
Crumb Catcher (2023) - If you like the show I Think You Should Leave, then you’d absolutely dig this movie. Really weird freaky guy in it, just really awesome absurdist humor. One of those movies I’m so mad I watched by myself because I am dying to rewatch it with my friends in a group setting. SO GOOD (4.5/5 stars)
The Chair Company (TV Series, 2025) - Speaking of I Think You Should Leave, I just finished season one of The Chair Company and I’m obsessed with it. No spoilers but honestly I could say anything that happens out of context and I don’t think it would spoil anything, but I thought it was so funny. So glad it’s coming back for a season two, I think we need it!
Mulholland Drive (2001) - Even though I really like absurd comedy, I am surprisingly not that big of a David Lynch head yet (I started with Eraserhead which might not have been the right one to start with lol) but Mr Jiggy loooooves Lynch so for his birthday we watched this! I really liked it even if I needed him to explain the ending to me, teehee! 😝 (4.5/5 stars)
Bugonia (2025) - I’m a very big fan of Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, especially after a back-to-back-to-back year of Poor Things into Kinds of Kindness into this new film. He’s on a roll! This movie was wild, about two crazy conspiracy guys who kidnap a CEO because they’re convinced she’s an alien. Is she? You’ll have to see! (4.5/5 stars)
Predator: Badlands (2025) - OH YEAH THIS ROOOOCKKKED!!! Such a sick addition to the Predator franchise. So much fun. (4/5 stars)
Sentimental Value (2025) - Really fantastic Norwegian film that came out this year starring Renate Reinsve (of The Worst Person in the World acclaim) and Stellan Skarsgard (of the guy that plays Pennywise’s Dad acclaim) (jk he’s also Baron Harkonnen from Dune) Kind of a sad one, but I really liked it. (4/5 stars)
The Running Man (2025) - Readers will remember I rewatched the original not too long ago in preparation for this one. It was… just okay! My thing is, the director Edgar Wright has such a pronounced visual style (watch Baby Driver and then come back to this review) and you wouldn’t even know that Edgar directed this one. There was no sauce! So that’s why I didn’t like it. (2.5/5 stars)
Who Invited Them (2022) - Fun lower budget horror movie about this couple that throws a party and there’s two people there that they have no idea who they are and they don’t leave!!! Literally my worst nightmare. Kind of predictable at times but I thought it was fun. (2.5/5 stars)
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City (TV Series, 2020) - yeah I’m adding this to the very bottom here because I am actually so in love with the real housewives of SLC. It’s some of the best dramatic television I’ve ever watched and I’m NOT kidding. Have you ever seen someone get raided and arrested by Homeland Security and go to prison WHILE they were filming an episode? Insane. Everyone should watch it. If you pretend it’s scripted, it’s so funny. It’s winning Emmys in my head. My favorite housewife is Lisa Barlow she’s insane.
Three Songs for You to Check Out: Man Made of Meat by Viagra Boys, Love Is by Dove Ellis, and Oh! Tengo Suerte by Masayoski Takanaka
